Antique Genealogy Item #310

Vintage 1847 Davies Arithmetic Book, Property of Abram Countryman:

Signed ‘Abram Countryman’ handwritten in old dip pen ink, and again in old ornate fine tip pencil. Book: Davies Arthimetic, Teachers Manual. Published: 1847. Publisher: A.S. Barnes and Co. Publishers. City: Manhattan, New York, Kings, Queens and New York County.

This early Victorian era primer was found in Upstate New York in Onondaga and Oswego County, near Syracuse. The cover is present, but torn from book. Has the name or word Dornan handwritten in back in the same old brown dip pen as name Abram in front. A great old teacher’s manual, we can assume Abram Countryman was a teacher.

Interestingly, we have a beautiful 1860’s Civil War era CDV photograph of Reverend Abram Countryman, item 2458 on our site, that was not found with this, although it could be related. A great genealogy mystery to solve!

Size: 4.5 X 6.5 inches
