Vintage Victorian 1850’s Early Ambrotype Photograph

Written on a slip of paper in pencil and sewn inside union photo case: Maria Judd. Photo Type: early Ambrotype Photograph on glass. Date: circa 1850’s to early 1860’s.

It is rare to find an identified ambrotype, as there was really no place to easily write names on them. This has a hand sewn early paper piece attached, with handwriting in early pencil. Found in Upstate New York, NY in Livingston, Monroe, Ontario County.

There is a piece of brown folded homespun fabric inside the case under her photograph also. See Maria’s 2 eldest sons, found with this photo on our site at number 1294.
